Irene Ruth Ryder passed away at home having attained the age of 103. Irene was blessed with a large family and a wide loving circle of friends. Irene was never prouder then when one of her many children, grand children, great grandchildren, or great great grandchildren did well. Irene was blessed with a spine of steel that saw her through the many trials dished up by the vagaries of life. She shook JFK’s hand, climbed up to Lady Liberty’s torch, and traveled the world with her husband, Richard. An avid fan of the Sacramento Kings, she would sneak out from the family gatherings in Monterey to listen to the game in the car, the only broadcast source. Her cranberry muffins were legend and often shipped to other parts of the world to surprise her great grandchildren. Her stubborn will was her greatest strength and one I sincerely hope I inherit. Irene was widely loved and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Kay Thornburg, her son, Kenneth and Sharon Walker, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Historic City Cemetery on February 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
